Axiology is the branch of philosophy that deals with values. In the process of assessing the axiological assumption particularly based on the Ethics and Esthetic view, in which ethic deals with morality, behavioral norms, and behavior whereas esthetic deals with something good or bad (Acharya, 2022). In Nepalese context, we find a lot of blend between eastern and western philosophies of education. The root values inherited from Eastern philosophy is reflected evidently in classroom settings. In Mahabharat, Drona asked for Ekalavya’s right thumb as a guru Dakshina that a student owes his teacher upon the completion of his training. Ekalavya cheerfully and without hesitation severed his thumb and handed it to Drona (Sharma, 2019). This story is an example of how eastern philosophy values teachers and never debates or questions teachers. Another important value instilled in individuals from an early age is respecting elders and even obeying elders which is often misinterpreted with not having a debate of any kind whatsoever. This value is still inherited in practice and culture where teachers have the constant pressure to know everything and be right or correct. On contrary, it also makes students blindly believe teachers and lose the sense of rationality to a great extent. With modernization and influence of western philosophy, individual and communal values are also being transformed slowly.

In terms of schools of philosophy, I believe that Nepalese context provides best examples of perennialism and essentialism values where teachers and parents deeply value certain skills and knowledge that students need to excel in. Mathematics and science could be considered as subjects pertaining with universal truths that are considered essential and fall under this category. Discipline is also considered of high importance which when misunderstood with authority disables the education system to move towards progressivism. There are also some practices considered unethical in Nepalese context of education. Leaving classroom even with permission from teachers can be considered unethical in certain settings or vice versa. Similarly, debate and questions of philosophical nature are often undermined or demotivated due to teacher lacking knowledge and having a superiority complex. This can be considered an innate behavior. With the advancement in technology, students today have been exposed to culture from all around the world. When not directed and guided properly, they often lead themselves to doubt the existing values, expected moral behavior and ethics that has been cultivated by their home, school and society. When there is imbalance in values, students undergo inner conflict and confusion.

With the current advancement and modernization, the philosophy of axiology can be further studied to instill better values in education system and bring a harmony among values.
